I've been using the 1000he for a couple of weeks now. Frankly, it's my most favorite of all computers I've owned since beginning in the '80s. It's small (but not too small) and easy to carry. Battery life is close to what they claim (I'm still playing with that but, so far, very satisfied). It's the first computer I've had that will really go out with me for the day and still have battery left when I return. The keys are just a little tight together (first thought) but I have now become accustomed to the size. I purchased the additional 2gb of memory (about $25) and popped it in before I fired it up for the first time. I'm not sure how fast it would have been with the factory installed 1gb but, for 25 bucks, 2 gb is a no brainer.

I did look at several other netbooks. By far... this is the best one currently available, in my opinion. Best $415 I ever spent.

Purchased Eee PC 12-April-09. Also purchased Asus CD Burner, 2GB RAM, wireless mouse and travel bag. When all was said and done,I spent over $500.00. For a couple of months the Eee PC was wonderful, then the battery wouldn't charge. I called Asus and received an RMA number, removed all my data from the unit and carefully repackaged the unit for shippment in it's original box with the original packing material. I took the unit to my local UPS store and paid to have the unit double boxed for safety, an additional $25.00. Within a week my Eee PC was returned to me via Fedex, NO double box. My Eee PC original box was covered in tape and shipping labels, which was a little dissapointing. Ok, I was willing to forget about my tattered box as long as the unit was returned in a functional condition.
Upon opening the box, I found that the scratch protection bag I had shipped it in was not on the machine, and to make matters worse, the machine still did not work. They had fixed the battery charging problem, however, now the machine will not boot into Windows. So, once again I called Asus service, spending the better part of an hour trying to fix the problem over the phone, to no avail. Now they want me to ship the unit back to them again for another crack at trying to repair it. They also told me I would have to pay for shipping (once again) to their repair depot. So I asked the Asus agent if it was ok to return in just the bare Asus box, and she said as long as the unit is not damaged. Oh, I didn't mention the small scratches on my machine from their neglectful shipping method. Yes, I am not a very happy Asus customer at this time, and am probably out of more than $500.00. I love my netbook, It is of a great quality and it proved to be just perfect for my constant moving life style. It's small size makes it easy to tuck it inside my backbag and the black case with a zipper helps protect it from the dust. The price is reasonable too.

Overall I am very satisfied with this computer. It starts up fast, the battery lasts long and it performs well.
The only thing I was a little unhappy with was the video performance when I used skype, which is conveniently included. The video was choppy and not in sync with the audio. I have not upgraded the memory yet so maybe this would help the problem. If I upgrade the memory I will update my review. First, great usual job by Amazon! No muss, no fuss - came on time, with zero issues!

I am sorta geeky - but this is NOT a 'geek' review - as I am only a 'user' of this fine netbook.

I bought the extra ram, but after 90 odd days, I have yet to bother to install it! I simply have not seen a need - go figure!

I am a gamer, but not on the netbook. I have custom built more than a few 'gamer rigs' and the *old* one I still use is a 2.4gz, 2 gig of DDR ram, a 512 meg nVidia video card, and more... The point of talking about what I use in the house is for a comparison when I say that email, web browsing, Word, Excel, and so on with the Netbook feels just as fast as if I was doing it at home!

The screen is great and bright - no dead spots

I love the keyboard! Not like, but LOVE it!

I do not care that it has no DVD or CD-ROM built in - if going over my network (wireless) at home or work is not good enough, I can always buy a DVD-ROM here on Amazon to use as needed.

The price was wonderful, and there is nothing that I would change.

I really do get 9+ hrs on a single battery charge! If you focus on turning off the Bluetooth (I do not use it) or the Camera (when not in use) and you set the power-savings features to the normal laptop type settings, I can take it to work on a long day, leave it on all day (am not using it every minute though) and still have an hour or 2 when I go home 10hrs later! My Boss's laptop is lucky to go 2hrs period! He saw it, liked it, and bought one - just because of the battery!

It's not to me, but maybe because I do not mind carrying a messenger bag with a total weight of 18lbs (lots of toys in it) - so the 5 or 6 pounds (don't even remember the weight) - simply is a non-issue to me!

Last point, if you have ever gone through a wipe and reinstall - this unit comes with a push-button process to do this for you! With a few key-strokes, it will be just like it was the day you bought it! - Makes it great for a child's first laptop for that reason alone.
