This is the best thing since sliced bread! I've replaced my regular sized laptop with this; granted, I mostly use my office PC and use this at home and when on the road. It's a great little machine that does all I need it to do. Great battery life, easy portability, blue tooth, and WiFi are all reasons I chose this little wonder. Great little computer. Upgraded to 2gb ram before installing my software, but for $20 it was an easy choice and super easy job (must update BIOS to see 2gb in system info).
I do recommend "sharing" your optical drive on a networked computer for software installs, but any usb optical drive can plug in easily too.
My packaging through J&R had popped airbags so the inner PC box was slammed around a bit, but I never would have known if someone else opened it for me. Keyboard size is a bit smaller, but easy to adjust to with extended use. Screen size is more of an adjustment if you're used to large/wide screens. My only reason to rate it down is that I would like to see more resolution options from the video card. Buyers should be aware in this PC segment already though.

After reading all the good things about the Netbook, I had to get it.
First, it is lightweight and portable. Some sacrafices are made for this size. There is no DVD drive or number pad on this unit. If you need those items, go for a much larger Notebook. That being said, this Netbook is great! Yes, I did install the 2 GB of 667Mhz memory. That was one easy upgrade. Next, I wanted to see how it worked on a newer version of Windows so I installed Windows 7 on the second partition "D" drive. The 160 GB hard drive is already split in two so I figured that was perfect for my test. The best thing is, you don't need an external DVD drive to install the OS. You just download Magic Disc,
( http://www.magiciso.com/index.htm ) and it will make a virtual DVD drive for you. Then mount the iso on the virtual DVD drive and install! Very easy. I haven't tried to mount a DVD movie on there yet but I think it will work. Just need an 8GB Flash drive to transfer it.
Anyway, I love the keyboard and controls. Not worried about fingerprints on the outside. This Netbook is a "Take anywhere you go" unit that is very fast and portable. Well worth every dollar. Runs Windows XP and Windows 7 RC like a charm with no problems. One thing to do is if you run it without an ac adaptor, the backlight will go down and make it hard to see. Just press fn plus F6 and it will lighten up as you wish. I highly recomend this unit.

I received my new Asus EEE1000HE last week and so far am very pleased.
It is almost as fast as my larger Lenovo T42 laptop, but has even more hard drive memory. I will be taking this with on long distance motorcycle trips with very little room to pack a bigger laptop,and will now be able to do a little work when I get free time. The battery life is exceptionally good even with the bluetooth and the webcam turned on. The keyboard is a comfortable size and easy to operate, though the trackpad buttons are a little stiff.
If you are looking for a good portable computer, I recommend the Asus EEE 1000HE.

I looked at several netbooks in this price range and decided on the Eee PC because of the keyboard and the battery life. The keyboard on the Asus Eee PC is a scaled-down duplication of the keyboard on my larger/heavier HP laptop. I like the feel of the larger ergonomic chiclet keyboard and the right shift key is in the correct place for typing. The mouse pad location causes the mouse pointer to jump around when I rest my wrists on the edge of the keyboard, so I try to either not do that or disable the mouse pad and use a USB mouse instead. The long battery life is for real!!!! This netbook travels everywhere with me as it is my primary tool for internet communication. It fits very nicely in a shoulder bag that measures 9 inches tall, 13 inches long, and 5 inches thick (9x13x5). In this bag I also carry the power cord and the USB mouse. As I said, it is a shoulder bag that is very easy (and light) to carry and it also fits into my motorcycle saddle bags. Although the blue Eee PC shows fingerprints, I love the color. I have no problems picking up network connections wherever I go. Compared to the other computers/laptops I use in my life, this one is slower to connect to and surf the internet with. For me, that was a small trade-off. I am running Windows XP and the Bluetooth mouse I purchased did not work well, so I returned it and use a USB mouse or the mouse pad. Bought one of these for the wife for her bday. We currently have a slew of computers in the house, so generally the addition of a new one is not really that exciting.

However, the fact that this thing costs $350 (AR), has a beautiful, sleek design, is small AND powerful enough to do what 95% of us use computers for, is simply outstanding.

I have a very expensive Dell XPS laptop (M1330) and I honestly would probably be happier with the Asus which costs a fraction of what the Dell did.

One thing that this little netbook excels at is acting as a DVD player for my kids when travelling. I ripped some of their movies and DVDs, downloaded VLC media player, and on the plane when one of the kids couldn't sleep, they were able to easily watch some Backyardigans (here again, small form factor and long batt life was much appreciated) Handles ripped mpeg superbly, and a host of other formats.

PROS: Price. Form factor (small!). Style. Ease of use (all kinds of extras and goodies that make things easier). Price. Memory is expandable (don't make the mistake I did and get the 1 GB upgrade chip...you need to buy a 2 GB chip since you have to pull the original chip and replace, not add to). Did I mention price? Battery life is almost unbelievable. Multitouch touchpad!

CONS: ? I am NEVER at a loss for cons on my reviews...but seriously...what can you say here at this price point, for a unit that performs as well as laptops costing 3x more? I guess I can say I wish it had an addtl headphone output so the second kid could watch movies!? :D

Lightweight, sturdy, resilient, fantastic (and cheap to boot!).

My only gripes: Sometimes boot up and webpage loading can be sluggish, depending on the size of the page. I also have been getting pissed off at all the pop-up notification that windows is giving me every time I open up a new program, click the start menu, or do pretty much anything other than what I was just doing. Shut up windows, I can take care of myself.

I received my ASUS Eee PC about a month ago and don't know how I lived without it! I had been using a Dell Inspiron 13" as my "portable" PC, but it was still too heavy and bulky to really travel with easily. I wanted a PC that I could easily fit in my purse or a small backpack, mainly to take with me on vacations so that I could instantly download pictures and videos to send to friends and family and my husband who is in Kuwait. This little guy handles all of that seamlessly and with the addition of Skype, the kids can tell daddy all about their adventures! I had no trouble at all with the keyboard and found the touch pad to be very responsive and easy to learn... although like some others I find that I inadvertantly enlarge things from time to time. The PC is VERY quiet and stays comfortably cool on my lap even after several hours. I have found the battery life to live up to its hype...I finally recharged it after about 7 hours even though it didn't indicate a "low battery". What I really like is that the screen is just as bright after several hours on battery power... my Dell is always noticibly dimmer even with a full charge.
